What do you think about a person who refuses to be anything other than a host?
My mother was always the "host" until her health would no longer allow it. The responsibility then became mine. Everyone expects me to fill that role. While it's flattering and I do enjoy it, it is a bit disconcerting that no one ever asks to return the favor. Having said that, others might feel threatened by your desire to "wait on" them. Perhaps they are afraid that you might do a better job. It's petty, I know, but it happens. I've heard through family gossip that no one wants to invite me over because they're afraid I would find them lacking. Maybe they're afraid to find you as capable as they are. Best thing to do is just go with it. If it bothers you too much, you might consider declining such events and having your own private party with those who don't feel the need to compete. Good luck.
